About Agustin Díaz I was born in Mexico City, I studied in the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature in the National Autonomous University of Mexico and I am a self- taught person in the studies of the Indigenous Peoples of Mexico. I arrived to the United States and directly to Memphis, Tennessee in the year of 2. In that same year that I came to Memphis, I became part of the Aztec Dance Group Quetzalcoatl, which had been formed four years before. It was in this city and in this group where I put to practice the knowledge obtained about the study of the vision of the pre- Columbian peoples and in the travels around the Mexican country to discover these ancient groups that caught my attention so much.
In 2. 00. 8, I began volunteering to write articles for four different Hispanic papers which I did for two years. I wrote about history, mythology and Latin American legends to enforce a sense of identity among our Hispanic community. Currently, I am the leader of the Aztec Dance Group along with my other longest- standing comrades. I paint, do art object, poetry, theatre, and I am member of the Day of the Dead Memphis committee, which has been organizing an annual community cultural festival.
The majority of my artistic works are focused on the world view of ancient cultures and more specifically on the Middle American cultures, as I consider that in spite of technological advances reached by the modern man, we still yearn for the knowledge that comes from the original people, the balance with their surroundings and their spirituality projected in each one of their doings. I believe that present and past are not in competition, but that we need so much one like the other until we reach a harmony between the two and are able to look as humanity for a brighter future.
Naci en 1. 98. 0 en la Ciudad de Mexico, estudie en la Facultad de Filisofia y Letras de la Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico y soy autodidacta en el estudio de los Pueblos Indigenas de Mexico. Ingrese a los Estados Unidos, y directamente a Memphis Tennessee, en el ano de 2. En el mismo ano que llegue a Memphis me integre al grupo de Danza Azteca Quetzalcoatl, el cual tenia cuatro anos de haber sido formado.
Fue en esta ciudad y en este grupo en donde comence a poner en practica el conocimiento adquirido en el estudio de la vicion de los pueblos precolombinos y en los viajes por el pais mexicano para descubrir estos grupos milenarios que tanto llamaban mi atencion. En 2. 00. 8 comence a escribir de forma voluntaria columnas en los periodicos hispanos de la ciudad por dos anos en cuatro diferentes periodicos, escribia historia, mitos y leyendas de America. Latina para reforzar el sentido de identidad de la comunidad hispana.
Actualmente lidereo el Grupo de Danza Azteca junto a mis companeros mas antiguos, hago pintura, arte objeto, poesia, teatro y soy miembro del Comite de Dia de Muertos Memphis que lleva 8 anos realizando un festival cultural comunitario. La mayor parte de mi labor artistica esta enfocada hacia la cosmovision de las culturas antiguas y mas especificamente de las Mesoamericanas, pues considero que apesar del adelanto tecnologico conseguido por el hombre moderno nos sigue haciendo falta el conocimiento de los pueblos originales, su equilibrio con el entorno y su espiritualidad proyectada en cada uno de sus actos. Creo que presente y pasado no estan en competencia, sino que necesitamos tanto de uno como del otro hasta conseguir armonizarlos y poder aspirar como humanidad a un futuro mas prometedor. Francisco Gonzalez Francisco Gonzalez, from Guanajuato Mexico, started to draw since he was a young boy. He sees pictorial art as something incontrollable to him.
In his view, the necessity to capture the images in his mind has always been present, and even today, he is constantly looking at everything as a pictorial possibility. Starting in his childhood, Gonzalez has always been seeking to express himself in painting. In his youth, he practiced graffiti and today he utilizes the airbrush, discovering the different techniques and also combines this with paintbrush.
Among his greatest influences are talented artists such as Luis Rollo and Melanie Delon, airbrush artists who create fantasy and ethereal pin- ups of incredible worlds. For Francisco, this exhibition at the Botanic Garden is a great opportunity, where he will present a great selection of paintings. In his work, he uses Aztec symbolism to show the world about the Mexican culture. He states: “art keeps me occupied; it keeps you away from bad influences and if done with love, good things come to you through art.”Francisco Gonzalez, originario de Guanajuato Mexico, empezo desde nino a dibujar, y ve el arte pictorico como algo incontrolable. Para el, siempre ha estado presente la necesidad de plasmar las imagenes de su mente, y aun hoy, constantemente esta viendo todo como una posibilidad pictorica.
Desde la ninez, Gonzales ha estado en busca de expresarse con la pintura, en la juventud practico el grafiti y actualmente utiliza el aerografo, descubriendo distintas tecnicas y combinandolas con los pinceles. Entre sus influencias estan los talentos de Luis Rollo y Melanie Delon, artistas de aerografo que crean pin- ups etereas fantasiosas de mundos increibles. Para Francisco es una gran oportunidad la exhibicion del Jardin Botanico, en donde presentara una gran seleccion de pinturas. En su obra utiliza el simbolismo Azteca para mostrar al mundo la cultura mexicana.
El declara que "el arte te mantiene ocupado, te aleja de malas influencias y si lo haces con amor vendran cosas buenas atraves del arte".
